This lakeside hike is ideal for those who appreciate leisurely walks by turquoise water and picturesque landscapes. The nearly flat terrain allows for a serene and relaxing experience, despite the hike's length.

Our journey begins in Bönigen and takes us through stunning lake views, picturesque forests, and towering cliffs. This hike can be completed either in one go or for a shorter adventure by focusing on the second part which features the captivating Giessbach Falls and approximately two hours of lakeside exploration.

The first part of our journey leads us from the Eschwanden Waterfall to the idyllic fishing village of Iseltwald via a wide forest path. The well-maintained trail offers breathtaking views of Lake Brienz and the surrounding mountainous terrain. We arrive in the beautiful village Iseltwald and can enjoy a little break, go for a swim or have a snack in a restaurant just next to the lake.

The second part of the hike follows the lakeshore, offering ample shade.

The majestic Giessbach Falls cascade down 400 meters in a series of 14 mesmerizing steps, creating a sight to behold. The trail takes you even behind the waterfall and up a second gentle incline.

We can visit the historic Grand Hotel Giessbach, enjoy snacks and drinks, and see Europe's oldest funicular. On our return, we have the option to take the funicular down to the lake or embark on a short walk to the ferry station, where we'll board a scenic boat ride back to Bönigen

Optional shorter Hike only second part from Iseltwald to Giessbachfälle

For a shorter hike, we can start with the second part by taking a bus to Iseltwald. From there, we'll follow a primarily flat trail to the Giessbach Falls. After enjoying the falls, we can return to Bönigen by boat.
